Readson's - Malawi, Southeastern Africa
Joshua is now 40 days old, having spent his first 8 days in the hospital with his mother, Mervis', to keep them from being infected by the Coronavirus. Mervis mother was by their side the entire time, and Patrick faithfully prepared and brought them three meals a day. As you can see in the photo, the Readson's are a lovely and happy family of five. Like all of us, they are following COVID-19 stay-at-home restrictions. Joel (far left) and Mervis’ niece, Glory (not pictured), are attending high school online.
The Readson's maintain contact with their congregation and 26 satellite church pastor couples, whom they mentor via phone calls and text, because Malawi doesn’t have robust internet capability. They have been joining Bart and Dawn Physioc and their Haus Church 2.0 services online via Zoom on Sundays, and feel very much part of that group.
Food prices are increasing significantly in Malawi as COVID-19 restrictions continue. Will you give $25 a month until the pandemic is over? Why do I worry?
I worried I would fail the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy.
I had completed and passed all the distance learning requirements, now I was at Fort Bliss, Texas attending the two-week residence phase of the Non-Residence Course. I worried a lot and asked Father to help me trust him. Holy Spirit brought to my thoughts Psalm 121:2, “My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.” That verse became my lifeline from anxiety to peace.
During my first trip to the grocery store, with my battle buddy Dan, I was drawn to a rack of place mats. It seemed weird until I saw one of our Solar System. Holy Spirit said, “Get it and keep it under your keyboard to help you remember how strong and powerful I am.” My corresponding thought was, “Yes, with God’s help we can do this.” I kept it under my keyboard in my hotel room and God reminded me every time I saw it that he was helping me.
That placemat, purchased in 2001, still sits under my keyboard, see picture below, to remind me the creator of everything is my helper. He helped me complete the Sergeants Major Academy and helped me through many other difficult times and seasons. He is helping me during this Pandemic. He will never stop helping me or anyone who asks.
My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth!

Our discipleship group, "J3K Ambassadors," meets every Friday from 8am to 10am EST using Zoom. We are working our way through the Gospel of Luke, and just observed the social and political environment John the Baptist preceded Jesus into. It's fascinating and encouraging to see God reach out to all his people then and now. The environment we are in may not seem the best to go tell others about the Lamb of God, but like Israel 2000 years ago, we need him more than ever.
