André Bikoi met Jesus in the Cameroon desert—
Witch doctors see God’s power at work and fear him.
At the age of 14, André was set apart by God. Long before he received his call to ministry.
Men of God recognized this. As did the witch doctors, who “saw” this Greater Power working in and on him and began targeting him for death. Their curses and spells led to sudden “accidents” and sickness without cause. But God saved André miraculously each time.
André’s God, as the witch doctors recognized, was far more powerful than theirs.
To escape these attacks, André’s mother fled with him and her other children to the northern desert region of Cameroon, far removed from his family that practiced polygamy.
There in that remote desert area, André met Jesus in 2001 and was baptized that same year. Then began the years of preparation. Born into a family that practiced polygamy, he had never seen his parents interact in a loving and caring way. But God gave him a “spiritual father,” a godly pastor, who took him into his home and discipled and mentored him.
A few years later, André received his Call to ministry.
Passionate is the word that best describes André.
He is passionate about knowing—and making known—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is passionate about his wife, Naomi, and their three daughters. He is a passionate learner, and we can see him getting a Doctor of Ministry degree in the future. He is passionate about everyone he ministers to and with, especially a Pygmy Tribe in the bush near Yokadouma, Cameroon, one he has been ministering to for four years. He is passionate about evangelizing and making disciples who in turn become disciple-makers themselves. “This is what Jesus has called us to do. We should return to our roots,” he says.
To prepare for this calling, André has been sharpening his leadership skills with the help of USA-based ministries. Through conferences, he has studied the transformational leader who is both shepherd and pastor—who makes disciples who then become disciple-makers themselves. Through J3 Khai Ministries, he is receiving personal mentoring in how to develop and apply this in his own ministry.
In addition, he was trained as a chaplain by USA-based organizations in three specialized areas—the Army, athletes, married missionaries in the field. All this has expanded his perspective and is preparing him to be used by God to further His Kingdom.
Although the path to ministry has at times been lonely and paved with many trials and obstacles, through it all André has remained steadfast. He strengthens himself in the Lord. When he speaks, it is from his heart. And people listen.
I first met Andre during a chaplain training conference I helped lead over 10 years ago. We connected quickly. We both shared a deep desire to know God and help others know Him, so they, in turn, would become disciple-makers themselves. Our relationship was sealed a couple of years later during a second chaplain training conference with the International Association of Evangelical Chaplains, when I also got to meet his wife, Naomi.
Since then, we have watched this couple grow spiritually in the Lord. We have seen their family increase to include three daughters—Heroine, Israella, and Darlene. We have helped them achieve their professional goals by paying for André’s Master’s Degree in Missiology and Naomi’s Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Currently André is working with an organization called Global Disciples, while Naomi is teaching part-time.
I get to ordain André this Spring; I will pray over and ordain Andre in Cameroon soon. André has asked me to commission him further in the Ministry. Like me, André is the first in his family to become an ordained minister. He hopes to have all his family present for this special occasion. Will you help him do this?
